Bridgeland Exemplifies Master Planning at its Finest The conceptual plan for the new community of Bridgeland exemplifies what a true master-planned community has to offer its residents. This 11,400-acre development will eventually be home to more than 65,000 Houstonians and 21,000 new homes. While many communities describe themselves as master-planned, by most definitions a master-planned community is a large land development of at least 2,000 acres controlled by a single entity and usually including substantial amenities. A true master-planned community involves significantly more than rows of streets with as many home sites as possible squeezed into the space. It is more than a subdivision or tract housing, more than unregulated suburban sprawl. A true master-planned community has exactly that…a master plan governed by a common set of design standards and land-use restrictions. The master plan is a blueprint for the construction of the community that creates stability and predictability while allowing the developer flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions and consumer preferences over time.
