Becky Koop, the principal at Matzke Elementary School, was named the first principal for Elementary School No. 53, Sue Gratehouse Pope Elementary School, on Friday.
Sue Gratehouse Pope Elementary School will open in August 2013 at the corner of Bridge Cove Drive and North Bridgeland Lake Parkway in the Bridgeland community.
“It’s an incredible opportunity to be named the Principal of Pope Elementary,” Koop said. “I look forward to building a partnership between the campus and community to create a school where students can flourish.”
Koop has spent 18 total years in education. She began as a high school teacher in San Antonio, and after three years came to CFISD as a teacher at Hancock Elementary School, where she served three years. She taught a year each at Hamilton Middle School and Matzke, then served as instructional specialist at Emmott Elementary School for one year. She served three years as an assistant principal at Jowell Elementary School and two years as an assistant principal at Warner Elementary School. In May 2009, Koop was named the new principal at Matzke, where she has served four years.
Koop received her Bachelor of Science from UT-San Antonio and her Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University. Her certifications include All-Level Physical Education (PK-12), Elementary Self-Contained (1-8), Secondary Health Education (6-12), Second Physical Education (6-12) and Principal (EC-12).
