Bridgeland joins The Woodlands Saturday, Jan. 21, for the 36th annual Arbor Day Celebration, slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Rob Fleming Park, 6055 Creekside Forest Drive.
Bridgeland not only will be handing out tree seedlings, but — in honor of Puffy Pine Cone’s™ birthday — will ask event-goers to vote on a mascot for the Cypress area community. Fans of Bridgeland’s Facebook page also will have a chance to vote on their favorite, https://www.facebook.com/Bridgelandcommunity.
Puffy Pine Cone™ is mascot for The Woodlands and during this sixth birthday celebration is asking people to dress up like a pine cone. Those copying Puffy’s style will receive a free sandwich, chips and drink at the event.
Approximately 31,000 tree seedlings will be given away during the Arbor Day Celebration, continuing a tradition that started in 1977. Through the years, The Woodlands has handed out about 938,000 seedlings. Varieties to be distributed free this year include Eastern Redbud, Flowering Dogwood, Loblolly Pine, Red Maple, Shumard Oak, Southern Wax Myrtle, River Birch and White Oak.
Other activities during the event include inflatables and rock walls, pony rides, a petting zoo, hayrides and face painting. Local musical groups will provide entertainment. Puffy’s birthday celebration starts at 1 p.m., with mascot buddy Clutch from the Houston Rockets expected to be in attendance. Children will enjoy free birthday cupcakes and cake at the party, courtesy of H-E-B The Woodlands Market. The grocer also is providing free donuts and fruit at the start of the event.
