Bridgeland Plans Spring Break Kid Camps

(Cypress, TX – Feb. 7, 2011)  Spring break doesn’t have to be a break from learning with two series of kid camps slated in Bridgeland March 14-18.

The Building Brains camps return with half-day and full-day sessions at the Lakeland Activity Center, 16902 Bridgeland Landing. Camp activities reinforce classroom curriculum, with students using colors, sizes and shapes to build simple machines and then perform scientific experiments to see how those machines work. Memorizing poems while using hand motions for gears, levers and pulleys will improve students’ literacy skills. Campers also will learn how to manipulate machines to make them work more quickly or slowly. Participants will use Duplo, Lego and K’Nex kits to build their machines.

Children ages 3 to 5 years can attend a morning camp from 9 a.m. to noon March 14-18 while older campers — ages 6 to 12 — will attend camp until 3 p.m. For Bridgeland residents, the cost is $185 for the half-day class and $250 for the full-day class. For non-residents, the cost of each session is $25 more.

For information on the Building Brains camps, contact Kim Koenig at 713.204.0770.

Also on tap is Camp Cook, cooking classes for children ages 3 through fifth grade. Each camp will include tips on following recipes, food art and a food activity. Students also will learn how to use kitchen tools and measure ingredients, food safety and kitchen safety. The Li’l Adventurers group, ages 3 to 6, will meet from 9 a.m. to noon March 14-15 at Lakeland Activity Center. Adventurers and Explorers, designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, will meet from 9 a.m. to noon March 16-18.

All ingredients, supplies and recipes are included. Cost is $40 per each daily session. For more information, visit www.camp-cook.org.

The spring break camps are just some of the Bridgeland activities open to the public. For a full calendar or to register for either camp, visit www.bridgelandlife.com.
