Fall brings a festive mood to Bridgeland, as residents welcome the season with a bevy of community events.
First on tap is the annual Fall Festival, set for 4-6 p.m. today at the Lakeland Activity Center. Open to the public, the free festival includes giant bounce houses, a fishing tournament, a cake walk, games and even a mechanical bull. Visitors can register to win a Playstation 3. Residents have been preparing for the festival for weeks, working on scarecrow contest submissions. Entries will be judged during the festival in the following categories: Best Group Effort, Most Creative, Best All-Around and Most Unusual.
“The scarecrow decorating contest was a huge hit last year,” said Elizabeth Dominguez, Bridgeland’s on-site activities director. “It was such fun to see all of the creative designs.”
Bridgeland residents also can showcase their creative flair in a pumpkin-carving contest. Pumpkins are being accepted now and are on display at the Lakeland Activity Center. Judging is planned for Oct. 30.
Oct. 31, residents and their pooches can don costumes for a tail-wagging twist on Halloween — Howl-O-Ween Fest, also open to the public. The free event, set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Bridgeland’s Oak Meadow Park, includes the 2009 Space City Disc Dog Championship, a dock-diving fun jump, costume contest and parade for dogs and their owners, a pet photographer, pet-related exhibitors and more.
Residents are also looking forward to an upcoming fishing contest. After catching a fish from one of Bridgeland’s well-stocked lakes, community anglers will measure and photograph their catch before releasing it back into the water. Prizes will be awarded by age group: 10 and under, 11 to 16 and 17 and above.
Special events such as these complement a busy activities calendar, complete with a variety of fitness classes, tennis lessons, playgroups and resident club meetings. Residents stay current on the many community events at http://www.bridgelandlife.com/.
