Reflecting the increasing popularity of the sport across the United States, the Bridgeland community’s 18-hole disc golf course illustrates the development’s innovative style.

Designed by Disc Golf Consultants and spanning more than 10 acres, the new Bridgeland course is nestled between the banks of Cypress Lake and Cypress Creek in Oak Meadow Park.

“This is arguably the best disc golf course in the southwest United States,” said Peter Houghton, the Bridgeland community’s vice president of sales. “And, with the challenging layout amid the wooded beauty of Oak Meadow Park, it’s another distinct amenity for our residents.”

Disc golf follows the basic rules of traditional golf, with players throwing special discs toward a target with the goal of reaching the target in as few throws as possible. The Bridgeland course offers three tee-offs, accommodating players of various skill levels. With throw lines crossing water and contoured with old-growth trees, the course provides stimulating fun.

To introduce residents to the sport, Bridgeland gives new homeowners a disc golf starter bag with three discs – a driver, approach and putter; a rules booklet, a disc golf towel, a disc golf mini marker and a water bottle.

The disc golf course is one of a unique slate of amenities within the Bridgeland community. The Lakeland Activity Center, now open, offers resort-style swimming with 30-foot slides and a splash pad, two lighted tennis courts, a community center with fitness facilities and meeting rooms, and two shaded playgrounds. Oak Meadow Park also is the trailhead to the first phase of Cypress Creek Trail, a six-mile route along the historic Cypress Creek Corridor that will open later this summer. Lake Bridgeland and Cypress Lake offer catch-and-release fishing and are open to non-motorized boating. Paddleboats may be rented on Lake Bridgeland.

As development continues, up to 60 miles of trails and 225 acres of parks will open, as will additional activity centers. An on-site activities director, recently hired, will host a full calendar of classes, activities and social events.

Bridgeland is a development of General Growth Properties, Inc., the second-largest U.S.-based publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) in the nation. As owner of Bridgeland and majority owner of The Woodlands, General Growth Properties is one of the largest master-planned community developers in the Houston area.
