CFISD Trustees Approve Opening Date for Bridgeland Elementary

Construction will begin in 2012 on the first school within Bridgeland.

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District trustees recently approved an opening date of 2013 for Elementary No. 53, to be constructed on a 14.5-acre parcel of land located in Bridgeland’s community of The Cove overlooking Cypress Lake.

“One of the conceptual plans under consideration is a unique two-story design with abundant windows to capture the views of Cypress Lake and the Cypress Creek Nature Preserve, which will be utilized as an outdoor classroom for students,” said Peter Houghton, vice president of Bridgeland.

The district is expected to have a school rendering available in January.

Dr. Pam Wells, Cy-Fair’s associate superintendent for governmental, community and planning initiatives, told board members at a Dec. 12 meeting that the district’s growth rate has been higher than originally projected, mandating the need for additional campuses. Of the three campuses approved during the meeting, the Bridgeland school will be the first to open. Construction of the schools will be funded through an $807 million bond referendum passed in 2007.

Bridgeland students currently attend Warner Elementary, Smith Middle School and Cypress Ranch High School, all opened within the last few years and located on a 130-acre multi-school site directly across from Bridgeland’s main entrance.
