David Weekley readies homes, models in Bridgeland’s Lakeland Heights

Bridgeland’s Lakeland Heights, a traditional neighborhood development, promises an enviable lifestyle for residents, where community events, exercise classes, retail and more are within walking distance. But so much is already in place, including new models and completed homes.

David Weekley Homes is opening models this month for both 50-foot and 42-foot homesites, and has several homes ready for immediate move-in in both series. The completed homes vary from 1,585 to 3,142 square feet and include one- and two-story designs priced from the $180,000s.

“We’ve had great success since beginning sales in Lakeland Heights just four months ago — we pinch ourselves everyday,” said David Weekley sales representative Joe Besecker. “We have more home designs to introduce next year and are looking forward to more homesites becoming available soon.”

Current home designs are base-priced from the $160,000s to the $300,000s and incorporate Craftsman, English Tudor, Classical and French housing styles to heighten curb appeal. Having architectural styles that are diverse and historical in appearance, rather than uniform and monochromatic, is a recognizable feature of traditional neighborhood developments, where homes appear to have evolved over time. Inside, the homes have the modern features today’s buyers expect, such as high ceilings, large closets, media rooms and state-of-the-art kitchens and baths. Set behind the homes, garages are accessed via private rear lanes.

Residents already enjoy several planned amenities, with many of the first homesites facing parks or a half-mile waterway, complete with a landmark bridge, trails, creatively landscaped park space and seating areas. The new Festival Park, one of several park spaces open in the community, already has hosted several large-scale community gatherings, including the Urban Nights grand opening celebration for Lakeland Heights, the Bridgeland Triathlon Finish Line post-race party and an “Alice in Wonderland” theatrical performance.

Also within easy walking distance is the Lakeland Activity Center, offering resort-style swimming, tennis and a 6,000-square-foot community center with fitness facilities.

Planned is Lakeland Village Center, a market square with shopping, services and dining, slated to open in 2012.

“We envision a place where friendships begin at the sidewalk café or along the scenic waterway trail and continue on the front porch. Daily interaction among neighbors is a given,” said Peter C. Houghton, Bridgeland’s vice president of master-planned communities.
