Bridgeland Community Stocks Lakes with Over 238,000 Fish

Posted | Tagged in: Untagged

Father and child walking side by side, fishing poles in hand – this isn’t a Norman Rockwell image or a scene from a favorite 1960s TV show. This Andy and Opie moment is a snapshot of life today in the northwest Houston community of Bridgeland.

Basking on the banks of more than 100 acres of lakes and meandering waterways, new residents of The Shores, Bridgeland’s first neighborhood, are not only enjoying tranquil water views but also spending leisure time fishing.

Recently, more than 238,000 specially selected fish were introduced to populate neighborhood lakes and offer residents the opportunity to “reel in the big one” on a catch and release basis.

Monty Bagwell, Bridgeland land manager, said the fish are sizeable and will be considered good catches in 12-18 months. The Bridgeland community will feature several fishing piers and currently offers miles of gently sloping open banks for easy casting with fly rods. Future activities will include residential fishing tournaments, seminars with fishing experts and “learn to fish” classes for children and adults, scheduled through a full-time activities director.

With a thoughtful streetscape and impressive amenity package, residents of the Bridgeland community can expect excellence, which is exactly what they get when it comes to technology access.

The Bridgeland community is the first master-planned community in Houston to deliver AT&T’s landmark U-Verse suite of services to all residents. This comprehensive package includes integrated digital TV and high-speed Internet services through fiber optics direct to the home.

U-Verse offers an array of available packages, with features including 300 TV channels with more than 25 high-definition options that deliver rich, realistic video and multi-channel, movie-theater sound quality. Also available is the ability to record up to four programs simultaneously using digital video recorder technology that can be scheduled remotely through a customer’s AT&T Yahoo! Internet account. Built-in picture-in-picture functionality and the ability to search for shows using a program title or an actor’s name allow residents to easily find their favorites.

Through the AT&T Yahoo! high-speed Internet options, residents can download items up to 6.0 Mbps. All U-Verse packages include wireless home networking, offering the ability to access the Internet using a wireless-enabled laptop or other device.

The 10,000-acre Bridgeland community is planned waterfront veranda with family and friends! for 21,000 homes and 65,000 residents. The master plan puts lifestyle center stage, brimming with amenities, including more than 3,000 acres of waterways, lakes, trails, parks and open space. The six-acre Lakeland Activity Center, the first of several community centers, opens this summer and will include an aquatic complex with an Olympic-size pool, a diving well with two platforms, two 30-foot sky slides, splash pads and play areas. A 6,000-square-foot community center will house a fitness center and several meeting rooms. An on-site activities director will host a full calendar of classes, activities and social events. The recreation complex also will include two lighted tennis courts and two shaded play areas – a tot lot and another space designed for older children.

“We’re really excited about bringing a full-time activities director on board,” said Joe Necker, vice president, development for Bridgeland. “Being on-site, the director will be able to read the pulse of the community and plan engaging, fun events.”

Residents will enjoy miles of trails with a variety of surfaces, including sidewalks, asphalt, decomposed granite and dirt, for multi-use purposes. A six-mile scenic trail opens this year along the historic Cypress Creek Corridor. Along the trail’s wildlife observation areas, hikers can glimpse some of the 140 species of birds already identified in the area.

(Cypress, TX) - Homes secluded from busy thoroughfares, minimal neighborhood traffic and terraced landscapes – these and more are hallmarks of Bridgeland Communities’ thoughtful planning. And buyers are starting to notice, with sales on pace to double the projected annual total.

“Bridgeland Communities is definitely off to a quick start,” said David Jarvis, Houston director of Metrostudy. “To have such strong sales so early in life indicates the community has definitely hit a chord with buyers.”

Buyers definitely notice the “Bridgeland Communities difference,” said Peter Houghton, the master-planned community’s vice president of sales. “We are developing a community that embraces its natural surroundings to enhance residential quality of life. And the result has been a sales velocity nearly unprecedented in such a young community.”

Bridgeland Communities’ master plan is packed full of amenities that set the community apart, including curving streets that minimize traffic and maximize views of lakes and landscaped common areas. Abundant cul-de-sacs and no through streets from one end of the community to the other provide children safe play havens. Elevated homesites allow for terraced front yards and each home’s upgraded landscaping package creates a distinctive streetscape. Also, all power lines are underground and meandering lakes and waterways take the place of unsightly drainage ditches.

“As the community begins to take shape, visitors can really see the developer’s vision, and the comments from prospective buyers are extremely enthusiastic,” said Jerry Johnson, a sales manager with David Powers Homes. “The community’s beauty and amenities, coupled with its strong product selection, have led to phenomenal sales.”

Three of Houston’s most prestigious custom builders are now showcasing designs in The Reserve at First Bend, an elite gated enclave within Bridgeland, a 10,000-acre master-planned community in Cypress.

Each of the 27 homesites in The Reserve is surrounded by water, and a lake at the heart of the neighborhood is a dramatic focal point. Each home is designed to maximize the spectacular waterside panorama, said Peter Houghton, general manager of Bridgeland.

Builders Tommy Bailey Homes, Ronny Carroll Custom Homes and Masterpiece Homes will offer custom designs priced from the high $600,000s to more than $1 million in Bridgeland’s new First Bend neighborhood.

Offering more than 100 years of combined experience delivering custom homes in Houston, the three builders are well respected in the area and an asset to Bridgeland, said Houghton.
