Fun at Lakeland Activity Center

Posted | Tagged in: lifestyle , health and fitness

Lakeland Activity Center is the centerpiece of the Bridgeland community’s current amenity package, complete with an aquatic park, fitness center and more.

A focal point of the Lakeland Activity Center is a 6,000-square-foot Community Center that offers a fitness center with state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength-training equipment. Meeting rooms are available for various resident meetings, parties, reunions and other events. A serving kitchen with pass-through windows opens to several meeting rooms and eases party hosting duties. A well appointed great room with vaulted ceilings, skylights, a fireplace and comfortable seating greets residents and their guests.

Amenities continue beyond the Community Center, with a resort-style swimming complex boasting a six-lane Olympic-size pool, a diving well with two platforms and a gradual-depth play pool with volleyball nets. A young children’s pool offers slides and spray toys. Two 30-foot tower slides are ready for tubing and a spray park features splashy fountains and creative water toys.

One of the Bridgeland community’s most noticeable differences is also an avenue of fun for residents: Naturally sloping shore-lined lakes, landscaped lake trails and waterways take the place of trapezoidal drainage ditches and cement-lined detention ponds found in other developments.

The 11,400-acre Bridgeland master plan devotes 3,000 acres to the conservation of open space, 900 acres of which are lakes with more than 60 miles of interconnecting trails. More than 200 acres of lakes and meandering waterways are in Bridgeland’s first phase of development, offering not only leisure activities but picturesque vistas, with homesites throughout the community designed to maximize water views.

Unique Amenities

Pools and parks are the focal points of nearly all of today’s master-planned communities. But while many developments end their amenity list with pools and parks, the Bridgeland community’s list starts there and continues on to offer an eclectic mix of fun for all ages.

Bridgeland residents enjoy a variety of active and passive pursuits, many embracing the area’s natural landscape. Anglers can try to land the “big one” at one of Bridgeland’s lakes, stocked a year ago with more than 200,000 fish. In addition to catch-and-release fishing, residents can also enjoy boating on Lake Bridgeland, with paddleboats available for their use.

Nestled along the shores of another community lake is Oak Meadow Park, home to the first disc golf course in northwest Houston. Disc golf follows the basic rules of traditional golf, with players throwing special discs toward a target in an effort to reach the target with as few throws as possible. The 10-acre course offers 18 holes of challenging play, with three tee-offs for players of varying skill levels and throw lines crossing water and contoured with old-growth trees.

Housewarming Gift for new residents

For a short time, Bridgeland buyers can qualify for an unexpected housewarming gift – a $1,000 Lowe’s gift card.

The promotion is good for contracts signed through March 31 on any home sale in the community. Buyers will receive their gift cards upon closing.

“This gift will give buyers a little extra help in meeting those inevitable expenses as they enjoy personalizing their new homes,” said Peter Houghton, the Bridgeland community’s vice president of sales.

Turning the ordinary into extraordinary, the Bridgeland community is doing much more than simply incorporating parks into its master plan – it’s creating dedicated gardens that will be natural oases for residents.

A focal point within Bridgeland’s First Bend community is Turtle Lane, a strolling path that will feature bronze climbing statues in the shape of turtles. The sculptures are nestled beneath one of the community’s several old-growth oak trees, estimated to be more than 50 years old, and carefully preserved by Bridgeland’s developer, General Growth Properties, Inc. Turtle Lane culminates in the Butterfly Garden, a small park landscaped with butterfly-friendly perennial flowers and shrubbery. Benches throughout the garden will offer comfortable viewing areas to watch the playful creatures once the plants explode with color this spring.

Dozens of homes are ready now in the Cypress community of Bridgeland, including several by David Powers Homes.

David Powers builds on both 50-foot and 80-foot homesites, with lake view properties now available in Bridgeland’s newest communty, The Cove. On 80-foot homesites, David Powers offers plans from 3,100 to 5,000 square feet with prices starting in the $370,000s. Four homes are ready now on 80-foot homesites, including a 4,594-square-foot David Powers design at 12210 Johns Enterprise Court, a replica of the builder’s model home in the community. On a cul-de-sac street, the home has four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a study and a formal dining room that accesses the kitchen through a butler’s pantry. The island kitchen has maple cabinets and a walk-in pantry. The breakfast area, framed with a bay window, opens to the optional covered patio. Upstairs is an L-shaped game room and a private media room. A hallway balcony overlooks both the family room and entry foyer. With upgraded carpeting and fixtures, wood floors in the dining room and study, and a sprinkler system, the home is priced in the $490,000s.
