Bridgeland Tempts Residents with Appealing Mix of Amenities

Whether you are highly active or your idea of a good time is reading a book while basking in the sun, the Bridgeland community has an amenity mix that is sure to please.

The master-planned community is devoting 3,000 acres to open space, with more than 900 acres of lakes and waterways planned. Already open is one of four planned recreation centers, the Lakeland Activity Center, which includes a resort-style pool, two 30-foot tower slides, diving wells, water volleyball and a spray park. The complex also boasts a 6,000-square-foot community center, two lighted tennis courts, two playgrounds and expansive sun shades.

Residents also can get on the water rather than in the water with complimentary use of non-motorized boats, including canoes, kayaks and sailboats.

Other active pursuits include a 10-acre disc golf course, the area’s first. Disc golf follows the basic rules of traditional golf, with players throwing special discs toward a target, trying to reach the target in as few throws as possible. The Bridgeland course offers three tee-offs, accommodating players of various skill levels. With throw lines crossing water and contoured with old-growth trees, the course provides stimulating fun.

Hiking also is on the agenda, with several trails, including the Cypress Creek Nature Trail, set along the historic Cypress Creek Corridor. One and a half miles of the trail’s planned six miles are open, including several wildlife observation areas with benches and educational signage pertaining to the history of the area and indigenous plants and animals. Appealing to bird watchers, more than 140 species of birds have been identified in the area.

In addition to bird watching, residents looking for a relaxed outdoor experience can try catch-and-release fishing at one of Bridgeland’s stocked lakes. Residents also enjoy a variety of parks throughout the community, including a butterfly garden, an aromatic garden, a formal rose garden and a central park area with several open play fields, playgrounds and more.

“Bridgeland has many natural attributes, so we’ve really designed amenities and planned events accordingly,” said Elizabeth Hart-Dominguez, Bridgeland’s on-site activities director. “That gives residents a multitude of recreational choices.”

Hart-Dominguez maintains an active resident calendar, with monthly classes for fitness, tennis and more, as well as frequent resident events, such as concerts in the park, seasonal festivals and family movie nights.

Plus, making it easy to enjoy community amenities, Bridgeland offers residents ample equipment to use in the many parks, lakes and trails already open in the development. Residents can check out canoes, kayaks, bicycles, fishing equipment and even bait from the pavilion in Oak Meadow Park from spring through early fall.
