Northwest Houston is rich with cultural offerings, a highlight of which is Cypress Creek FACE, the Foundation of the Arts and Community Enrichment. The non-profit foundation brings a range of cultural arts programming to The Centrum, an 885-seat performance hall that is part of the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center, 6823 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.
Some of the popular performers seen at The Centrum include Bill Cosby, Nancy Wilson, Bob Newhart, Tommy Tune, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and more. Plus, FACE features local and regional artists in its Promenade Series, which targets local retirement communities, nursing homes and seniors groups to bring entertaining and meaningful programming they will enjoy. Finally, the Free Children’s Series features local artists in performances geared toward elementary students.

Cypress Ranch High School student Hillary Brindell will be recognized with other area students during the Prudential Spirit of Community Recognition celebration slated for April 6. The eight students are being lauded for their volunteer work in the community. As a member of her school’s Key Club, Brindell raised money for a child diagnosed with neuroblastoma. In addition to participating in events and fundraisers, newsletter editor Brindell included updates concerning the child in the Key Club publication.
The event is being held at The Junior League of Houston, 1811 Briar Oaks Lane on April 6 from 5-8 p.m.

Prospective buyers will enjoy this month’s grand opening festivities celebrating Bridgeland’s new model home park, including tours of the fully decorated models, information on more than 50 inventory homes, a chance to win a $1,000 American Express gift card and a bevy of builder incentives.
Builders opening model homes in the park include David Weekley, Highland, Perry Homes, D.R. Horton, Lennar, Village Builders, Darling Homes, Partners in Building, Trendmaker and Meritage. Showcasing the array of architectural styles, sizes and prices available in Bridgeland, the new model home park is located in The Cove, a distinctive collection of neighborhoods surrounded by water and boasting an abundance of common areas. Current plans call for 13 model homes segmented by price in three adjacent locations. The model homes surround the acreage for Bridgeland’s first Cypress-Fairbanks school within the community, an elementary campus.

Sign up to perform or just come to enjoy an evening of performance poetry at Lone Star College-CyFair’s Spring Poetry Slam set for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1, in the College Center.
Performers from area colleges, universities and the community will compete and entertain spectators in a coffee house setting. The poetry styles typically range from vibrant, hip hop style to serene rhythm and rhyme. Judging the performances is a panel of professors, community members and students who use an adaptation of National Poetry Slam rules.
Contestants need to prepare three original poems with the performance of each poem no longer than three minutes. Anglers wanting to explore the intricacies of fly fishing are invited to a beginner fly-fishing class 9-10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 7, at Bridgeland’s Oak Meadow Park.
This is one of several community events that will be open to the public this year.
The class will include hands-on casting instruction on both a group and individual basis; how to present an artificial fly to trout, bass and saltwater species; and how to hook and land a fish. Also on the agenda are how to make basic fishing knots and how to assemble a fly-fishing outfit.

With a master plan that boasts four distinct villages, varied home choices and a host of different amenities, there will be one unifying factor — the Bridgeland community’s 60 miles of trails.
The trails will connect Bridgeland’s many neighborhoods, parks and recreation centers, putting all the community has to offer within easy reach of residents. Miles of trails — from pedestrian pathways to nature trails — are already open, with many more planned.

Whether you are highly active or your idea of a good time is reading a book while basking in the sun, the Bridgeland community has an amenity mix that is sure to please.
The master-planned community is devoting 3,000 acres to open space, with more than 900 acres of lakes and waterways planned. Already open is one of four planned recreation centers, the Lakeland Activity Center, which includes a resort-style pool, two 30-foot tower slides, diving wells, water volleyball and a spray park. The complex also boasts a 6,000-square-foot community center, two lighted tennis courts, two playgrounds and expansive sun shades.

Bridgeland is starting the new year with new model homes as the community’s second model home park continues to expand.
A model by Village Builders is the latest addition to the park, which, upon completion, will have 12 model homes segmented by price in three adjacent locations. The new model home park is in The Cove, a distinctive collection of neighborhoods surrounded by water and boasting abundant common areas. It surrounds the acreage for Bridgeland’s first Cypress-Fairbanks school within the development, an elementary campus, with an estimated opening of 2012.
