Bridgeland Invites Public to See Santa Nov. 28

Posted | Tagged in: events , Bridgeland

Santa and even Mrs. Claus are taking a break from their busy holiday schedule to visit Bridgeland from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28.

The public is invited to meet the jolly couple at Bridgeland’s Lakeland Activity Center. Kids will have a chance to let Santa know they have been good and pose for pictures by a professional photographer. Parents also will have the opportunity to take pictures. Those taken by the photographer will be available for download and purchase on http://www.shutterfly.com/.

Event-goers are asked to bring an unwrapped toy that will be donated to Toys for Tots.

This is one of two holiday events happening in Bridgeland. The residents-only Christmas in the Park is an annual favorite, with more than 600 attending last year. Not only will Santa make an appearance, but his reindeer and Dickens-style carolers will add to the merriment. The highlight of the event will be lots of snow where kids can slip, slide and frolic.

New Larger Custom Homesites Now Available

Custom home buyers in the award-winning Bridgeland community will enjoy elegant homes set in gracious surroundings on homesites that are now nearly one-half acre.

The newly enlarged homesites are nestled amid three nature reserves and all 20 properties feature water views. This distinctive neighborhood, The Reserve at First Bend, is gated, requiring key card entry for cars and for access to the bordering pedestrian trails. Despite its exclusivity, the neighborhood is well-located within Bridgeland, an easy walk along pedestrian paths to playgrounds, gardens and Oak Meadow Park, which is home to Bridgeland’s disc golf course and frequent community events.

More than 4,000 people found Bridgeland’s second Nature Fest to be a wild adventure, as crowds gathered in the community to learn about birds of prey, watch armadillos race, shop a farmer’s market and much more.

The free event, held Sept. 26, also raised more than$3,000 for two local charities — Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County and the Katy Prairie Conservancy.

Bridgeland Plans Second Model Home Park

Bridgeland is taking its innovative model home park concept to the next level, with a new park in the planning stages.

The second park, which should open next spring, will be in The Cove, a distinctive collection of neighborhoods surrounded by water and boasting abundant common areas. Current plans call for 12 model homes, which will be segmented by price in three adjacent locations.

“The new model home park will actually be three in one, making it even easier for prospective home buyers,” said Peter Houghton, the Bridgeland community’s vice president of master-planned communities.

With a pooch parade of costumed canines, Bridgeland is transforming kids’ favorite candy-collecting holiday into a “Howl-O-Ween” celebration, Saturday, Oct. 31.

Howl-O-Ween Fest will start at 10 a.m. in Bridgeland’s Oak Meadow Park, and end at 5 p.m. — just in time for young ghosts and goblins to start their traditional Halloween activities.

Headlining the family-and-Fido event will be the 2009 Space City Disc Dog Championship, a three-day competition that will be held in Bridgeland Friday through Sunday, Oct. 30-Nov. 1. The event is expected to draw high-jumping pets from across the region as they vie for “top-dog” honors in a variety of trick categories.

Residents Enjoy Complimentary Recreation Equipment

The Bridgeland community not only provides the natural environment to enjoy a bevy of outdoor activities, it is also providing the equipment on a complimentary basis for resident use.

Residents can enjoy non-motorized boating, with paddleboats, kayaks, canoes and even sailboats available for use on Bridgeland lakes. Also available are bikes, fishing equipment, disc golf supplies and various sporting equipment. All of the equipment may be checked out — at no charge — by residents of the community.

Helping a Hero Awards New Home to Moran Family

Wounded war veteran Capt. Daniel Moran, USMC (Ret.), and his family received keys to their new Bridgeland home Monday, Aug. 31, sharing the momentous event with a crowd of well-wishers that included U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) and Astros legend Craig Biggio, all on hand to show their support of Moran and HelpingaHero.org.

Builder Perry Homes constructed the Morans’ new home on a homesite donated by Bridgeland, an 11,400-acre development of General Growth Properties in Cypress that was named Master Planned Community of the Year in 2008 by the National Association of Home Builders. This is the seventh of eight homes Perry has built at a substantial discount for the HelpingaHero.org Home Program. Perry will dedicate its eighth HelpingaHero.org home Sept. 14. Houston Rotary District 5890 also has been actively involved in raising money for the project, which was funded by The Strake Foundation, Rex and Marilyn King and the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.

Bridgeland Difference Number 14

Posted | Tagged in: technology

One of the best things about living in the Bridgeland community is something you can’t even see, but certainly something that is used every day — fiber-optic technology wired directly to the home.

And that technological “extra mile” is Bridgeland Difference No. 14.

Many communities tout fiber-optic wiring; however, usually it’s built through a fiber-to-the-node delivery system, with cables brought to a central location in the community. Copper phone cable — rather than fiber optics — then carries services to homes.

More than 600 of the area’s most physically fit tested their prowess in Bridgeland recently during the community’s first triathlon.

Sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the Bridgeland event made full use of Bridgeland’s natural resources, with a 482-meter swim in Lake Bridgeland, a 14-mile bike course on Fry Road and a 3.28-mile run throughout the master-planned community and along the Cypress Creek Nature Trail.

Proceeds from the triathlon benefited a variety of local school and community organizations.

Different is good.

It’s no accident that Bridgeland stands out. Planners developed a careful road map for the community, one that embraces a host of differences, including Bridgeland Difference No. 10: Lakeland Activity Center, one of several planned hubs of fun for the growing community.

Lakeland Activity Center is the centerpiece of the Bridgeland community’s current amenity package, complete with an aquatic park, fitness center and more. It is the first of several large-scale activity centers that will be built as development continues, each with complementary amenities that all residents can enjoy. The center — along with its planned counterparts — is just one of a list of differences that set Bridgeland apart from other communities. Differences are both highly visible, such as the activity center and hundreds of acres of lakes, and invisible, such as underground power lines. All differences, however, are significant to the way of life Bridgeland provides residents.
