Public Spaces

The definition of a Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) is a comprehensive plan that includes a variety of housing types and land uses, including educational facilities, civic spaces and commercial establishments located within walking distance of private homes, served by a network of trails, streets and lanes that are designed with pedestrians, cyclists and motorized vehicles in mind so that there are multiple modes of transportation within the community.

Residents need places to go if the community has been established as pedestrian-friendly so with that in mind, some of the first public spaces included in Lakeland Heights are:

-Waterway Park:  A one mile pathway surrounding the unique waterway in Lakeland Heights, a main focal point in the community.  Iron benches and street lamps along with ample formal landscaping make this area feel like anything but suburban Houston.

-Central Park:  A spectacular fountain and formal garden are the highlights in this gathering spot, surrounded by iron fencing and benches for relaxing and visiting with neighbors.

-Festival Park:  This three-acre park is the hub of activity for Lakeland Heights.  A covered pavilion with restrooms, seating area and fireplace provides a place for residents to enjoy outdoor concerts, movies in the park and other events throughout the year.

-Playground at Central Park:  An expansive playground and park have just been completed in Phase 2 of Lakeland Heights.  The interactive playground and unique shaded arbors will surely become a community gathering spot.

Other walkable destinations adjacent to Lakeland Heights include the Lakeland Activity and Aquatic Center with tennis courts, playgrounds and activities in the 6000 square foot Community Center.  Across Fry Road is the Cy-Fair tri-campus that includes Cy Ranch High School, Smith Middle School and Warner Elementary.
