Making Donations One Home at a Time Makes a Positive Impact for Area Charities
The Howard Hughes Corporation, the developer of Bridgeland as well as The Woodlands and The Woodlands Hills, donates regularly to organizations in the Greater Houston region. One of the guiding principles in the company’s corporate social-responsibility program, HHCares, is supporting area charities. Their most recent Spring Giving Campaign successfully exceeded goals by raising significant funds to aid local organizations.
The campaign ran from March 1 to April 30. For every home sold in Bridgeland, a $1,000 donation was made to one of three area charities. New Bridgeland homeowners were given the opportunity to choose between Cy-Hope, Cypress Fairbanks Educational Foundation (CFEF) and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) to receive the funds. Each donation will help these nonprofit organizations increase their funding of worthwhile causes.
Cy-Hope is a local organization whose purpose is to bring hope and opportunity to every child in the Cy-Fair area. According to Cy-Hope, donations will help to provide over 1,000 dual credit financial assistance awards, run a Cy-Hope Hope Center for a year and a half, sponsor 34 Dierker’s Champs Baseball teams for one season, and sponsor 535 students to participate in one year of Cy-Hope’s mentoring program.
Celebrating its 50th year, Cypress Fairbanks Educational Foundation will use the funds to accomplish their mission of increasing area students’ access to college by awarding scholarships to CFISD graduating seniors. Funds will also be allocated to funding the foundation’s newest initiative of providing dual-credit scholarships for current students. CFISD’s dual-credit program allows students to take college accredited courses while still in high school. Bridgeland’s donation will make these classes financially accessible for students and lessen costs associated with higher education. In partnership with the CFEF, Bridgeland is proud to promote excellence in our schools.
In addition to the Spring Giving Campaign, Bridgeland also regularly supports Cy-Hope with funds from the well-attended Nature Fest, and CFEF through scholarships and sponsorship.
The third option was the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) which seeks to cure these diseases and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Thanks to the new Bridgeland homeowners who made this choice, our donation will help to fund one year of critical research on CAR (chimeric antigen receptor) T-cell immunotherapy. This therapy is a ground-breaking treatment approach that seeks to genetically reconstitute a patient’s own immune cells to recognize, attack and inhibit cancer cells.
The Howard Hughes Corporation is dedicated to positively impacting the lives of those within and around our community by donating to over 130 non-profit organizations each year. They seek to leave a footprint that’s bigger and more meaningful than the brick and mortar of the developments they build. And by engaging residents in philanthropic events such as the Spring Giving Campaign, they hope to encourage continued giving and volunteerism of the Bridgeland community.
