Get Ready for Bridgeland’s Bike Rodeo on March 2!
One of the greatest rites of passage for a child is the moment they learn to ride a bicycle. The ‘I can do it’ feeling coupled with independence gets them started on a journey to try new things. And as with many newly learned experiences, it isn’t always easy. Falling down and getting back up, wabbling from left to right while trying to maintain a sense of coordination and balance is tricky, but once it clicks, they’re off to find new adventures.
Through our extensive network of hike and bike trails, Bridgeland residents have easy access to connect with neighbors, the outdoors, schools, retail, worship, and soon, Bridgeland Central. Getting there is as easy as, well, riding a bike — if you know how. To help more people to learn to ride a bicycle, Adventure Kids Playcare and Bridgeland are excited to host a Bike Rodeo in Lakeland Village Center on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M.
Located in Lakeland Village Center off of Apple River Dr., Adventure Kids Playcare provides a safe environment for children to learn and explore new things. As not everyone has had the experience of learning to ride a bike, the event is for kids and seniors and everyone in between. Bridgeland’s Bike Rodeo is the opportunity to explore something new together! Adventure Kids Playcare will be partnering with RideONE, a program to encourage alternative transportation that was started by Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis to teach children and adults to ride a bike and all about bike safety. Anyone who wishes to learn to ride a bicycle or get re-acquainted with riding can do so at the upcoming Bridgeland Bike Rodeo.
If you don’t own a bike, BikeOne will provide a fleet of bicycles in a variety of sizes for use that day. Helmets, important for safety, will be sponsored by Howard Hughes, The Lippincott Team EXP Realty, and a maintenance clinic tent, manned by Trek Bicycle Cypress will also be on-site to offer some basics about keeping your bicycle performing optimally. Participants will also receive important bike safety instruction.
Riding a bicycle is a great way to exercise and provides a healthy way for families to spend time together. With 250 miles of trails, your family can go on countless adventures to over 70 parks and green spaces. It’s all accessible here in Bridgeland, and as former US President John F. Kennedy once said, “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.”
The Rodeo includes a raffle where you have a chance to win a new bike. Some of our favorite Friday Night Bites food trucks will also be on-site so you can enjoy something quick or you can stop in to one of our Lakeland Village eateries for a sit-down meal. Tours of a police car, ambulance and fire truck will be available for curious minds.
Bridgeland’s Bike Rodeo will receive additional support from Precinct 4 Commissioner’s Office, Fit Texas, and AAA. Participants will need to sign a waiver, and then you’re off to the proverbial races!
The program will take place in the parking lot at the rear of Adventure Kids Playcare between Apple River Drive and Paynes Creek Drive. The area will be cleared of all vehicles for a safe experience for all. Please find parking in alternative lots around Lakeland Village Center.
If you’re an adult who has been thinking about learning to ride a bike, or you have a little one that’s ready, Bridgeland’s Bike Rodeo on March 2 provides an ideal opportunity to learn! Neuroscientists have proven that riding a bicycle is good for our muscles and for our brains. And as you know, once you learn to ride a bike, you never forget.
