Building beautiful, environmentally friendly spaces for people to live while also giving back to the same communities go hand in hand at The Howard Hughes Corporation. The Fall Giving Drive, a campaign to raise funds for local charities within the Greater Houston area recently raised over $85,000 for the following five area non-profits: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Operation FINALLY HOME, Montgomery County Food Bank, Cy-Fair Educational Foundation and the Willis ISD Education Foundation.

The Fall Giving Drive ran for the month of September in the Houston area communities of Bridgeland in Cypress, Texas, and The Woodlands Hills in Conroe and Willis, Texas. For every home sold in either of these two communities, The Howard Hughes Corporation donated $500 on behalf of new homebuyers. By inviting homebuyers to choose the charity to receive the donation, the Fall Giving Drive introduces them to local non-profits while also raising awareness of insufficiencies within the community.

“There are many positive impacts of the Fall Giving Drive, which provides residents the opportunity to make an investment in their community the moment they purchase a home through the funds donated on their behalf,” said Heath Melton, President of the Phoenix Region for The Howard Hughes Corporation. “Our hope is that homebuyers and their families will be inspired to continue to pay it forward and choose to volunteer or support any of the worthy non-profits that serve our community. A big thank you goes to all those involved in the Fall Giving Drive, whose support will help countless people.”

While homebuyers played a big role in the Fall Giving Drive, 100% of the builders in Bridgeland and The Woodlands Hills as well as various Realtor partners donated to the selected charities, providing an even greater impact to the charities and the meaningful work they do. Contributors who made a $2,500 donation include Beazer Homes, Chesmar Homes, Century Communities, Coventry Homes, Darling Homes, David Weekley Homes, Fedrick Harris Estate Homes, Gehan Homes, Highland Homes, Lennar, M/I Homes, Newmark Homes, Partners in Building, Perry Homes, Ravenna Homes, Taylor Morrison, Tri Pointe Homes, Village Builders and Westin Homes. Additionally, several Realtor partners have also helped to magnify the benefits of the fundraising effort by making donations: The Lippincott Team, Shelley Cooley with eXp Realty/The Franklin Team, and The Flory Team.

Monies raised during the Fall Giving Drive strengthen individuals, support causes, and uplift the community-at-large. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds life-saving blood cancer research and provides support services to patients seeking access to quality, affordable coordinated care.

Operation FINALLY HOME, brings people together to build homes and hope for America’s military heroes and their families; Montgomery County Food Bank is fighting to end hunger in Montgomery County;  Cy-Fair Educational Foundation is dedicated to empowering today’s students and tomorrow’s leaders through higher education, scholarships, and grants for staff development; and the Willis ISD Education Foundation which generates financial resources from all sectors of the community to promote education excellence and opportunity beyond the scope of the Willis school system.

The Fall Giving Drive is part of HHCares, The Howard Hughes Corporation’s corporate social responsibility program that has donated to over 180 local charitable causes every year. It’s founded on a commitment to community-based philanthropy that includes financial support and volunteerism by employees in the communities where they live and work. One example is Melton who serves on the Gulf Coast Region Board of Directors for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The Howard Hughes Corporation, together with Melton, has raised over $1 million for LLS, recently earning Melton and the Howard Hughes team a PRISM award for best charitable project at the annual Greater Houston Builders Association gala. Internationally, The Howard Hughes Corporation has been recognized with the Communitas Award for their contributions and commitment to social responsibility during the pandemic.

Our communities are stronger when we become aware of needs within the community and work together to uplift those in need. The Howard Hughes Corporation remains committed to continuing to build a strong sense of goodwill throughout our communities and giving back to the organizations that do critical work to help others. We are sincerely grateful to our residents, builders, and Realtors that do business in our communities that made the Fall Giving Drive possible.
