College costs continue to soar, but with a little monetary help from scholarships and awards, college-bound seniors may find their first-choice schools are not so out of reach. As the Bridgeland community extends into Waller Independent School District, this year’s scholarship program will also expand. The Howard Hughes Corporation is pleased to make scholarships available to graduating students from both  Bridgeland and Waller high schools.

Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to two graduating seniors from each high school. Students must be in good standing and applying to an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Submission requirements include an application, transcript and essay. Scholarships will be awarded by the selection committe based on financial need. Applications and instructions on how to apply are now available on Bridgeland’s website.

Students from both high schools have recently made the news. At Bridgeland High School, Mallorie Garner was named the Chronicle’s All-Greater Houston volleyball player of the year, and Connor Weigman of the Bears’ football team will be presented with the National High School Quarterback of the Year award by the National Quarterback Club on February 26th. He is the second athlete from the Houston area to win the prestigious award.

Waller High School students have also been earning accolades. The Waller FFA livestock team placed 3rd at the National Western Livestock Judging Contest, and earlier this month, for the fourth year in a row, the award-winning Waller High School UIL Academic Team’s Nick Morris advanced to the final round and earned 5th place at the UIL State Congress Meet held in Austin, Texas.

Each year, the Howard Hughes Corporation awards scholarships to graduating seniors in each of its award-winning Houston-area communities of The Woodlands, The Woodlands Hills and Bridgeland. We look forward to hearing about future accomplishments from both Bridgeland and Waller high school students. The deadline to submit an application is April 15, 2022.
