Bridgeland is quickly earning a reputation for not only being a community with world-class amenities, but for being a community that is engaged with our area neighbors. From hosting community-wide events, such as Nature Fest, held recently, to other philanthropically-minded efforts, our community is one that is invested in the community-at-large.
Over the past 39 years, The Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) has led the Benefit Homes Project whereby association members donate land, materials and services to build two to three homes per year. The homes are built for minimal costs as a result of the donations, and the homes are sold at market value. Proceeds from the sale of these homes are donated to two local charities. More than $11 million dollars has been raised thus far.
As a member of the GHBA, the Howard Hughes Corporation is donating its sixth homesite in Bridgeland to this wonderful charity project. Local beneficiaries of the sale of these homes are HomeAid Houston, which builds new lives by building housing for the homeless, and Operation Finally Home, who provides mortgage-free homes to service members who were wounded or ill as a result of serving our country.
The recent groundbreaking on the home in Bridgeland that will be built by M/I Homes was attended by national and local vendors who will be donating labor and materials, including: Williams Insulation, GE Appliances, Long Star Air Systems, Amailey Plumbing, Allpoints Surveying, Flooring Services, 84 Lumber, and Builders Post Tension. In addition, two veterans who were beneficiaries of the Operation Finally Home Program were at the groundbreaking along with representatives from Howard Hughes Corporation, M/I Homes and the GHBA.
The supporters of the Benefit Home Project are demonstrating their commitment to Houston’s homeless and to America’s military heroes and families of the fallen who have given so much to defend our way of life. The Howard Hughes Corporation is proud to be a part of the Benefit Homes Project to support these amazing charities that truly make an impact in the lives of those in need.
