With the new year comes resolutions to be a healthier you. Maybe you’ve committed to eating more fruits and vegetables and snacking less, or maybe you’ve pledged to do more exercise. Deciding to improve your health at any time of year is always a good decision. One way to begin down a healthier path is to go for a walk.

Studies show walking just 30 minutes a day offers numerous health benefits. Some of those benefits include improving mood, reducing stress, burning calories, improving heart health, and of all the ways to get exercise –  it’s a relatively injury-free way to move your body.

Living in Bridgeland makes starting and sticking to your New Year’s resolution as easy as stepping out your front door. All Bridgeland homes are one quarter mile or less from a park or green space, and the sidewalk in front of your home will lead you to one of the hike and bike trails that can take you to any of Bridgeland’s themed play parks that now number more than 70. With approximately 100 miles of trails and preserved nature corridors with 150 more to be built, going for that walk will lead you on an adventure to new green spaces – and you’ll never have to leave the community.

The network of trails may lead you to one of Bridgeland’s world-class amenity centers such as Dragonfly Park in Parkland Village, Longwing Landing in Prairieland Village and the Lakeland Village Activity Center where you can access fully equipped fitness centers. There will also be  an amenity center in Creekland Village that will begin construction later this year.

A few of the walking paths include outdoor workout stations, so you can include pull ups, sit ups, leg lifts and other ways to tone your muscles. You’ll find these options along House Hahl Trail in Lakeland Village and the Parkland Common linear trail. Some paths lead to more tranquil spaces where you can meditate or practice yoga. In Prairieland, you can take an evening stroll to the overlook at Chrysalis Lake to watch a striking sunset.

Adjacent to Oak Meadow Park in Lakeland Village, you’ll find the trailhead for Cypress Creek Nature Trail that runs alongside Cypress Creek. Here you can walk 2.5 miles in the shade beneath the towering oaks which gave the park its name. Plans include extending sections of the nature trail in the future.

Bridgeland provides residents with numerous opportunities to stay active outdoors. The network of trails that weave through the community will take you to any number of places to do a myriad of activities such as boating, soccer, tennis and pickle ball, disc golf, basketball, skateboarding, and more.

Howard Hughes understands the value of having access to an abundance of open green space and the natural environment, which is why Bridgeland has 3,000 acres dedicated to lakes, parks, trails and open space, so residents can interact with each other and nature. In fact, Bridgeland provides 28% of permanently dedicated open space! No matter if you set out by yourself, with a friend or your family, or even with the family dog, let the hike and bike trails of Bridgeland beckon you to take the first step and adventure down the path to a new you.
