Hosted by The Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans, Inc. (TBCSVI) the Fun Run/Walk for Heroes takes place on Saturday, October 21, 2023 beginning at 8 a.m. in Festival Park. Registration on Eventbrite is open until Thursday October 19. With a 5K and 10K option, as well as a 1K option for children, running and walking enthusiasts will find their perfect distance and entry fees ranging between $20 and $30 depending on the race you choose.
Signs will be placed along the race course to honor military heroes. If you would like to honor a particular veteran or active service member, you can do so at registration by listing their name, rank and branch of service.
“The event is a major fundraiser for The Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans, Inc.,” said Bob Thomas, an Airforce fighter pilot veteran, resident, and president of the group. The group is raising funds to build a Veterans Memorial to honor Bridgeland residents for their service to our country. The community group started with a few resident volunteers that formed the nonprofit entity. To date, their efforts have raised $230,000. “Come out and run and support veterans, Thomas said.”
Their mission also includes supporting immediate needs of veterans in the community. For instance, during the pandemic, TBCSVI helped to fund out-of-work veterans with mortgage and car payments. They also supply community veterans with a Thanksgiving turkey and each Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and September 11, the group leads memorial services in the community.
Vendors, entertainment and food trucks will be available throughout the morning. Participants in the 5K and 10K races will run/walk around Josey Lake and park. The children’s walk will take place around a portion of Lake Bridgeland starting at 9 a.m. and is the only race open to strollers and wagons.
Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place winners in both the 5K and 10K races. Children under 10 years of age participating in the 1K will receive a medal celebrating their accomplishment. And all runners will receive a shirt and hand towel while supplies last. Packet pick up will only occur on Friday, October 20 from 12-7 p.m. at the pavilion in Festival Park located across from Lakeland Activity Center at 16902 Bridgeland Landing Drive, Cypress, TX 77433.
Over the years, participation by runners and sponsors has continued to grow. The Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans, Inc. would like to thank their many sponsors for the 2023 race:
